choose better software
About Nextcloud

Cost, ease of installation, add ons, AWS compatibility.
A little clunky software and there is a bit of a learning curve. Updating is a little dodgy sometimes.

Comments: software well done, easy of installation, easy of use and rifh of functionality, there are some bug, but it offer an satisfyng user experience.
Pros:
the software is very powerful and offer high customization and a high level of security, but there are some bug on arm devices.
Cons:
when i m try to mount an external nas it give me an error.
Own your own cloud server
Comments: You phone is important and the data on it is even more important. With some products, it uploads a small amount of information but misses text messages, caller loags, and other critical files. With an 8tb hard drive, expenses from other commercial cloud art era go down keeping your information safe and secure.
Pros:
Fast and secured file transfers from phones and cloud server using VPN and SSL options.
Cons:
Sometimes you work on app but when an update happens, it isn't available (probably for good reasons).

Thank you so much for your kind review! We are happy you enjoy and get lots of use out of Nextcloud. Thanks again for taking the time.
NextCloud for Businees Cloud
Pros:
The biggest plus is that it is open source. Multifunctional software with apps that can be added
Cons:
Sometimes it becomes unstable and takes time to recover.
Nextcloud Software: A Dissatisfying Experience
Comments: I was disappointed because I wanted more than what I received.
Pros:
My first impression of Nextcloud software was quite good. Initially, I used it as external storage. My initial impression of Nextcloud was positive.
Cons:
I wanted to leverage its online collaboration capabilities to work with my team. However, I encountered recurring problems with the online edition, and it works poorly, leading to significant frustration.
Works well for file sharing service
Comments: Overall, the software performs the specific task we needed it for, so have no complaints as a whole. As noted, there are a couple of "nice to have" things, though, that would make it much better.
Pros:
We needed the ability to accept files (e.g., a file drop service), and this was easily accomplished with Nextcloud. It was fairly simple to set up and has worked very well.
Cons:
I wish integrations like Microsoft 365 authentication were better built in. There is some support, but it's extremely cumbersome. I had it working for a while, and then out of nowhere it just stopped. No clue what happened. I didn't want to risk that in production, so for now, we've disabled that and created separate accounts. I would also like better local encryption options.
Alternatives Considered:
An open source alternative to Micrososft 365
Comments: Nextcloud offers to our employees a modern way to share and co-edit files internally or externally.
Pros:
Nextcloud is open source and you can keep the control of your datas.
Cons:
Mail app is not good enough yet. It is slow and lacks some essential functionalities.
The perfect choice for any healthcare provider
Comments: Best Choice in Health Care.
Pros:
Secure, fast, easy to use, easily adopted by nurses and doctors
Cons:
As a (FREE!) community-Edition-user with no programming skills it would be cool if you could offer a bounty to the IT-Guys in the forum if you need additional features....
Nextcloud a must have company tool
Pros:
Open source, high level of security and privacy, fully configurable without software restrictions. Great support
Cons:
Although Nextcloud is well documented and a big community is providing support, setting up Nextcloud from scratch requires some IT skills and knowledge.
Alternatives Considered:
All premium features for a cloud system, on premise.
Pros:
I use self-hosted Nextcloud for me and for some of our customers and we are all satisfied: in a click you can save, share, search your files and documents. There are many extensions available as OCR, photo retouch and so on and you can connect also external sourced as S3, Google Drive, Dropbox and others.
Cons:
Nextcloud community is not easy to install, but if you know systems a little and follow instructions you can do it by yourself. As an alternative you can buy Nextcloud
Great solution for file sharing
Pros:
I tried 4 different solutions for my simple use case of keeping family photos on my personal “cloud” aka a computer in my house that has access to the Internet. Complex, feature rich, open source! A fork of ownCloud, it covers way more cases than the one I was looking for, so I decided to use one that does just photo management, but I really appreciated the ease of use and the seamless installation of this software! I am sure, that once I’ll have an use case that Nextcloud offers, it will be my first stop! :)
Cons:
Not a con! But for me, it was a _bit_ too feature rich for my liking - I like tools that do one thing, and one thing only. Safely ignore my opinion, nextCloud team does a great job at developing this solution!

A Solid Cloud Hosted Storage
Pros:
It was an easy PHP web app to setup that is fairly extensible. It has a large selection of plugins that let you add basically all functionality you’ll need to parallel something like DropBox Enterprise. I have only used the self-hosted version, so I can only speak to that, but so far, it has been fairly stable, running on an 8core 12GB VM with Ubuntu 18.04 (past 6 months) and Ubuntu 14.04 (for the past 3-4 years). Given that it’s self-hosted though, you’ll get no official support, except from the community forums which have been friendly and helpful. The devs are also fairly active there, so you’ll get good answers. It maintains great integration with iOS and desktop devices (can’t speak for Android), and using it together with a SAML setup is quite a breeze. So far, it has scaled to about 150K small files and 1.5TB of storage. It’s built-in authentication system is also quite robust, with support for TOTP and FIDO 2FA via the plugin system. It also maintains solid integration to Collabora Online and OnlyOffice, allowing real-time document editing with multiple users and guests, which has come in handy quite a few times. Great software overall!
Cons:
Can be a bit difficult to set up initially. You’ll need a solid understanding of SysAdmin basics to even get off the ground, since it’ll rely on you having a properly configured web server. You’ll also need to know how to properly secure both the installation, as well as the database Nextcloud runs on. A compromise to either of those points would cause a security issue.
The Number One-Solution for your personal and private cloud!
Comments: It has been a great journey from the very beginning to the current Nextcloud Hub 22. The solution worked out of the box and can be extended with many stable plugins so that there is anything you can dream of which can be implemented - even with writing an app on your own while the number of apps increased week by week!
Pros:
Nextcloud appeared from the vast ruins of ownCloud which I always liked, but always hassled with once there was an update. It was vital from the very beginning, it was more open, it was more stable - and everything you needed to get if up and running worked like a charm straight from the scratch. With each version there was not only an evolution, but a refinement of features, an open conversation with the community (something ownCloud really lacked of) and a visible progress. Besides, working and using Nextcloud is just wonderful.
Cons:
Nothing that would be worth mentioning - indeed there are no negative aspects regarding my use case and the use case of my customers. It would be nice to get a fully-featured IMAP-server integrated in Nextcloud, but this is a luxury issue. Besides, the company should take its time to grow and to keep the platform stable and maybe there will once be a Nextcloud-Talk app for macOS and Windows?

Nextcloud - A Secure and Powerful file and team software
Comments: Nextcloud made managing users and shared projects and deadlines very easy with its calendar and its real time collaborative document editing feature, making it a necessity on my daily use.
Pros:
The biggest use case for Nextcloud is the file server itself. Admins can create users for the employees or setup registration with plugins and define how much storage and access each user has, how they communicate with others on the network with the Talk app plugin and integrate all of Nextcloud's features together with projects, which are similar to workspaces with a dedicated chat with voice and video calling, a project file space with realtime document editing (similat do Google Docs) and calendar integration all in one place. All of these features are free and can customized for your own personal use case and it is very high quality.
Cons:
Setup can be quite difficult for someone with no experience on setting up Virtual Private Servers (VPS's) and with custom domain management, as it requires the Admins to create their own server and configure it with a GUI (in respect to configuring users and projects) and within the terminal for the VPS and domain provider (for a custom domain and SSL encryption, which is required for audio and video calling).
Perfect Google Drive Alternative for the Tech Savy, but a ways to go for the general populace
Comments:
Nextcloud is great for people who are tech-savvy and want to reduce privacy concerns brought forth by having all of your data saved to the cloud.
Nextcloud should look into selling small mediacenter-style computers that have Nextcloud pre-installed on them, in cooperation with a hosting service, so that a layman could just plug it in, answer a few questions, and be up and running in minutes.
Pros:
Nextcloud is a fantastic software that gives so many features for free to users to host their own data. The interface is very simple and attractive, and the mobile app and client-side software make it a great replacement for Google Drive
Cons:
Inherent with the versatility of the software, Nextcloud is limited to who can use it. It's very complicated to set up your own server for a non-tech user, and I feel this will be a barrier preventing it from growing.
Alternatives Considered:
Keep control on your data
Comments:
At the beginning I was using it to store my online courses to have a centralized point to consult them.
Progressively I used it to backup automatically my personal pictures from my phone, numerised official documents, to share documents with friends and family.
Really no more use of dropbox or things like this now
Pros:
This is quite easy to set up and administrate. Updates are very easy to install. Great overall functionnalities and good documentation Open source FTW
Cons:
The client may need some upgrades and a better integration with desktop maybe ?
Alternatives Considered:
Great software and even better customer support
Comments:
It was super easy to build up a test environment (VM image, Docker, ...)
Even with other apps like Onlyoffice for collaboration it worked all well. No costs, everything on our site.
Then it became bigger and bigger and we purchased the subscription to get support and a professional setup. Now we cannot afford an outage of the service, as the whole company uses the different features of the software.
Pros:
Nextcloud has the best customer support I have ever seen. Every ticket gets solved quickly and with a lot of additional information from the developer. They are super precise, no questions gets lost. Essentially you are talking directly to the developer of the code. It is really the best support experience I had so long. I also want to mention the Talk feature for video conferencing. It works quite good and with no privacy concerns. It is the one feature every employee needs, now during corona crisis.
Cons:
For regular users, that have never used a software to share files, the process of sharing can be complicated because of the many posibilities. Nextcloud could make thist process a bit easier.
Best Cloud
Pros:
I use the file sharing feature the most. However, it has everything from video conferencing to office editor.
Cons:
Infrastructure system that is inadequate in intensive use.
my NC
Pros:
core cloud functions and some app's and its sync
Cons:
I am MISSING exactly one app: here is the use case:I am in a meeting and want to speak some notes into my mobile which should be syned in text form into NC Notes or something elseI am on the road, in the train ... have an idea spreak it into an app at my smart phone and the note will automatically synced in text form into an NC appI am in ...I simply want an text2spreach app on my mobile which syncs it into a NC app
Good cloud & sharing platform
Comments: It's pretty good, the UI is helpful and you can share files pretty easily.
Pros:
Good UI, good synchronization, can work and be implemented with various platforms - like Hetzner storage for example.
Cons:
Well, the login procedure is a bit annoying. There should be a mobile - 2FA implementation, with each session being approved from a mobile device.
A great solution for folks that want more control over their data.
Comments: Centralization of my files and documents, ease of management and use, and desktop/mobile clients for every platform that I use (Windows, Mac, iOS). Additionally, it's completely free and does all the things that I need it to do.
Pros:
I've been using Nextcloud as a replacement for Google Drive and Google Docs for the last four or five years. It has a ton of really great apps that I can install that can replicate popular Google services. For instance, I can use the Nextcloud desktop and mobile sync clients to have Google Drive like functionality. I can install a calendar app that gives me Google Calender functionality. There are apps for tasks, documents, and e-mail that all work really well, and again, replicate that Google functionality that we've all come to be fans of. However, my favorite feature is the "News" app that lets me setup all of my RSS feeds and view them in a browser. Previously I had used Google Reader, but when Google shut down that product, it left me searching for a replacement. I tried several other options, but eventually stumbled onto Nextcloud. Initially I only wanted to use Nextcloud for the News app, but when I saw everything that it could do, I migrated away from Google entirely and now use my self hosted Nextcloud instance which gives me full control over my documents and files.
Cons:
The biggest con for me with this application is it never upgrades properly. I use a third party hosting provider called Dreamhost, and whenever I attempt to do an automatic or manual upgrade to my Nextcloud instance, I end up breaking it and have to rebuild it from scratch. I don't know if this is due to something on my hosting provider's end, but every single time I've attempted to do an upgrade it has failed. Additionally, community support can sometimes be lacking. Since this is an open source product, you have to rely on a lot of forum posts and blog entries to find solutions to your problems. Sometiems that can be frustrating.

Dear user, Thank you for the review on Capterra! We're very glad you are happy with Nextcloud! Nextcloud upgrades should absolutely not give any issues - there must be a problem at Dreamhost if they do. In addition, we offer our customers stand-by support when doing upgrades to make sure even large installations upgrade smoothly. Our experienced team is extremely adept at identifying and fixing them quickly! If you want to get the most out of Nextcloud, consider a Nextcloud Subscriptions to benefit from our expertise and additional functionality like Outlook integration. The community forums are - well that, community forums, only really suitable for home users.
The best and cheapest you can find for file storage and management
Comments: I consider it to be an essential tool to consider when choosing a file/document and collaborative control and management platform.
Pros:
The user interface is very intuitive. As well as the installation. We have made sure that our VPS have SSD storage, this greatly speeds up searches. We have about 30 clients and 10 employees working on a docker instance at the same time, and the resource consumption is hardly noticeable. You need to make sure you have well-optimized hardware. If you do this, you will love Nextcloud, because it will be as light as a feather. I love its ability to integrate with other collaboration apps. You can grow as far as the hardware allows.
Cons:
I think for whom there is a solution. I wouldn't take or add anything to NextCloud for now. It has met all my requirements. Oh my God! Can be installed on a Raspberry Pi!
An Unexpected Gem
Comments: I installed Owncloud about 4 years ago, and moved to Nextcloud after the fork. Originally it was kind of a lark-- I had low expectations. Almost immediately I discovered it was a service I use every day, and would never want to do without. Since the fork I've been amazed at the continuing updates which bring better functionality and new features. I'm a committed privacy advocate, and Nextcloud gives me file sharing, contacts, and calendar, in an easy to use interface, all on my own server. Nextcloud Talk, with which I can video conference with my family and business clients, is just icing on the cake. If you haven't tried it, you should, it works amazingly well.
Pros:
I'm a big privacy advocate, so it is important to me to keep control of my own files, contacts, and calendar, away from the prying eyes of Google and their ilk. The ability to quickly create a password protected folder, and share it with any client or customer, with full read-write capability, is a feature I've come to depend on, on a daily basis.
Cons:
I miss the ability to link my Google Drive and Dropbox storage but, honestly, I didn't use it that much anyway (privacy issues). Less of a big deal anyway, since I've now been able to upgrade my home internet service, and I can run a second version of Nextcloud on a Raspberry Pi at home, and Federate the connection to my main VPS. That means I can connect as much storage as I need. In the past I've had trouble with some of the updates, but that hasn't been an issue for more than a year. I guess I really have no complaints.
A great option for customizable cloud storage and collaboration
Comments: I've been using NextCloud since it's initial release (I started with OwnCloud before it forked). I love that it is open source and I can set it up on my own server, which is exactly what I've done for both personal use and a non-profit I support. I've been using it in both of those roles for a couple of years now and have been very satisfied. I've even used hosted versions for personal use as well.
Pros:
It gives me more flexibility than other cloud storage options in terms of defining different users and user access to different content. Also, the federated storage model is fantastic - I can use much more cost-effective, S3 compliant storage solutions than standard web server storage pricing.
Cons:
A few of the user interface design choices are non-standard, such that new users don't always intuit how to use it; but there are only a few such issues.
Forget Dropbox i have Nextcloud!
Comments: I can have all my company's data in a secure place and share files with customers with editing options. I use this for my business everyday!
Pros:
I was looking for a solution in my company for media storage, assign share links to my client's and employees, to be able to have control over their accounts, make announcements, edit folder permissions, commenting on shared files/links, and all of that is possible for me in Nextcloud! I am blowned away the many feature si am able to use on my everyday basis in my company. Something i really like is the drop file feature, i can make a folder and share that link for upload only, without viewing content etc. It is a huge help to drop suggestions etc. I use Nextcloud with Mountain Duck on my companies computer, this way everyone can access their Nextcloud server like if it was a external hardrive. Also i can get all addons directly from their library,
Cons:
I would love to have more control over the styles on every elements, even thou it is possible to create my own theme, it would need lot's of coding. Some buttons are not in the best position, i have to rely on custom css to change some buttons.

Dear Josef, Thank you for the review on Capterra! We're very glad you are happy with Nextcloud! If you want to get the most out of Nextcloud, don't forget we have Nextcloud Subscriptions available. That improves much on the community help aimed at home users like you'll find on the forums and gives access to additional documentation and capabilities like our Outlook integration, Global Scale and more. Take care!
Highly useful for users like me
Comments:
Been using since OwnCloud and since handed over to NextCloud, i can see lots more improvement.
Very happy with this software.
Pros:
1. It does what it advertises and does it well 2. Free 4. Security conscious to some extent. The software does recommended as well as let you know what needs to be fixed (Self Hosted) 5. Lots of plugins, for eg. Ability to edit excel document right through your browser or phone without additional software. 6. Documentation for installing on self hosted systems and information is quite variant and easy to understand 7. Applications for mobile devices with very nice features, for eg. When taking a video or photo with your phone, you have the ability to upload the img/vids automatically to your server
Cons:
Just one issue. If your server needs an update (Self Hosted) it would be great to have the desktop software notify you rather than login with your admin account on the self-hosted system and look in there.
